DRIVER CRITICALLY INJURED IN HORROR SMASH AT GARGETT

RACQ CQ Rescue airlifted a critically injured driver to Mackay Base Hospital late yesterday after a horror accident in the Pioneer Valley.

A vehicle was discovered slammed into an embankment on Mackay-Eungella Road, near Gargett, just after 3pm.

The Mackay-based rescue helicopter, with a Critical Care Paramedic on board, was tasked by Queensland Health to the scene but was unable to land nearby due to dense tree coverage in the area.

The helicopter was landed on the oval at Pinnacle, 54km west of Mackay and just a few kilometres from the Gargett accident scene, to wait for a Queensland Ambulance crew to transport the patient.

The 37-year-old driver suffered very serious head and chest injuries and was flown to Mackay Base Hospital in a critical condition, arriving at 5.15pm.

Sadly, it is the second major motor vehicle accident in the region RACQ CQ Rescue has attended in under a week.
