QUAD BIKE RIDER CRITICALLY INJURED IN MORANBAH ROLLOVER
RACQ CQ Rescue has airlifted a critically injured man to Townsville in a marathon eight-hour mission after a quad bike rollover early this morning near Moranbah.
The 48-year-old rider, believed to be from Mackay, was riding a quad bike with a friend when the bike is believed to have rolled and landed on top of him near the back of the Moranbah racecourse about 12.30am.
He was not wearing any safety equipment and was found by his friend in a semi-conscious state.
RACQ CQ Rescue, with a Critical Care Paramedic and doctor on board, was tasked to meet an ambulance crew at the scene near Grosvenor Creek. The patient was in a critical condition with head injuries, spinal injuries and serious lacerations.
The rescue helicopter landed on scene at 2am and the flying trauma team stabilised the patient for the flight and intubated him.
RACQ CQ Rescue departed for Townsville University Hospital, arriving with the patient in a stable but critical condition about 5.40am.
