Harrowing turn for three-day-old baby Hollie

Thomas, Hollie’s Father: “We really appreciate the service and can’t thank everyone involved enough. We are eternally grateful”

April 22nd should have been a joyous homecoming for this young family, but when their three-day-old baby girl took a harrowing turn with her parents discovering blood in her vomit, Baby Hollie’s parents, raced to their local hospital desperate for medical support.

Upon arrival at Proserpine Hospital, it became evident that Hollie’s condition was severe. Her heart rate was alarmingly low and she struggled to feed, complicating her already delicate state. They soon realized that Hollie needed specialised care above the capabilities of their local hospital, and she needed it fast.

With a heavy heart, Hollie’s dad Thomas watched as his wife and newborn daughter were loaded into the rescue helicopter. “Seeing my newborn daughter and wife being taken away and having to drive home to pack our bags was the hardest thing I’ve ever done” he explained.

Thomas says that he felt so comforted by the CQ Rescue Crew. They could see his distress and as fathers themselves, they could empathise with him. They were kind and caring when he needed it most.

Despite the initial setback Hollie’s strength and resilience shone through. She fought hard and made a remarkable recovery within days.

“You never think it’s going to be your family that needs it, but it’s a really scary thing when it happens” explained Thomas.

Reflecting on their ordeal, Thomas acknowledges the unexpected nature of life’s challenges. Living in a rural area, accessibility to specialized medical care can be limited. However, the knowledge that the CQ Rescue team is just a phone call away brings a sense of security and peace of mind to families like theirs.

“The CQ Rescue team were amazing - they were very comforting and made me feel that my girls were in safe hands.” - Thomas, Hollie’s Father
