MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN HORROR ACCIDENT ON PEAK DOWNS HIGHWAY

June 18, 2020
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A man has been flown to Townsville hospital with possible spinal and brain injuries after a horrific accident on the Peak Downs Highway early this morning.

The man had parked his work vehicle on the side of the road just before 5am to allow his passenger to “answer the call of nature” when the door of his work ute was clipped by a passing truck.

The accident happened before sunrise midway between Nebo and Coppabella in a 100km/hr zone on the Peak Downs Highway. The driver was hurtled through the air in the accident and the truck came to stop 100 metres down the road in the bush.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked about 5.15am and flew direct to the accident scene with a doctor and Critical Care Paramedic on board, landing on the highway. The Peak Downs Highway was closed for some time and traffic was backed up to Nebo.

The seriously injured man was airlifted by RACQ CQ Rescue to Townsville hospital and arrived at 9.30am.

Already this year, the Mackay-based rescue helicopter has airlifted 18 people who’ve suffered injury, some even life-threatening or fatal, as a result of motor vehicle accidents.
