FAMILY FUN DAY SHOWCASES REGION’S EMERGENCY SERVICES
Jump on a police motorbike, get behind the wheel of a big red fire truck or sit in the pilot seat of a rescue helicopter at the annual 2021 Emergency Services Day on Sunday, May 23 at Harrup Park.
Emergency Services Day, proudly presented by RACQ CQ Rescue, is a fun and educational community day, open to all residents of Mackay, Sarina and surrounding communities. It is designed to showcase both the region’s emergency services and community groups which help in a time of need and to promote effective emergency and disaster relief plans.
Promising a huge day of family fun, there will be fire trucks, police cars and motorbikes, Army vehicles as well as marine rescue boats and helicopters on display for young and old to check out and jump on board as well as chat to the crews who are our lifeline in times of disaster.
RACQ CQ Rescue CEO Ian Rowan said the family fun day, which would run from 10am to 2pm, would include numerous educational and interactive exhibits and hands-on demonstrations. There would be free family entertainment including face painting and jumping castles for the kids, food and beverages available for purchase and plenty of educational resources and giveaways.
“Here’s your chance to jump aboard the region’s rescue helicopter … without being sick or injured,” RACQ CQ Rescue CEO Ian Rowan said.
Jump in the pilot seat of the Bell 412 rescue helicopter and check out the on-road and off-road equipment and vehicles used by Queensland Police, Queensland Fire and Rescue Services and Queensland Ambulance.
The public can meet the extraordinary and selfless volunteers from the State Emergency Service and organisations like Volunteer Marine Rescue to hear first-hand about the incredible job they do in the community.
Check out the displays and armoured vehicles from the Australian Defence Force, meet some of the cute and cuddly animals saved by our local Australian Wildlife Rescue volunteers and grab lunch or a treat or two from an array of food vendors.
“The day will also feature displays and demonstrations by incredible organizations who do so much good in our community including the Rural Fire Service, Red Cross, RSPCA Mackay, Aviation Fire and Rescue Services and the Salvation Army,” Mr Rowan said.
“You can also pick up some handy tips and information from Ergon Energy, Crime Stoppers and the Department of Transport and Main Roads, get behind the hose of a fire truck, check out the back of an ambulance or go aboard one of the region’s rescue boats.”
This year RACQ CQ Rescue celebrates 25 years of service and 10,000 milestone missions.
Entry to the 2021 RACQ CQ Rescue Emergency Services Day this Sunday between 10am and 2pm is by gold coin donation.
