TEENAGER AIRLIFTED AFTER BEING CRUSHED IN REMOTE CATTLE YARDS

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RACQ CQ Rescue flew more than 600km on a six-hour mission last night to airlift a teenage girl crushed by a steer near Clermont.

The 16-year-old Mirani girl was working in cattle yards late yesterday on a remote property on the Belyando River, about 180km north-west of Clermont, when she was crushed between a beast and a cattle yard panel.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked about 8.30pm and flew directly to Moranbah within 45 minutes to refuel the helicopter before proceeding to fly to the cattle property and to land on a dirt road with a doctor and Critical Care Paramedic on board.

The teenager, who suffered possible spinal and pelvic injuries in the incident, was treated by the trauma team and flown to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition. Given the remote location of the property and distance, the Mackay-based helicopter required refuelling again at Moranbah Airport.

RACQ CQ Rescue returned to base about 2am.

“During this unprecedent and uncertain time, RACQ CQ Rescue remains available 24/7 to be a lifeline to anyone, anywhere at any time across this region,” CEO Ian Rowan said.

This was the fourth task the RACQ CQ Rescue had completed already this week, he said.
