FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RACQ CQ Rescue has airlifted a truck driver to hospital after he was injured when a water tank exploded near Nebo this afternoon.

The 64-year-old delivery driver suffered suspected fractures and had to be airlifted to Mackay Base Hospital after the tank exploded as he was pumping water from his semitrailer into the poly tank.

It is believed the truck driver was standing next to the water tank as it was being filled near the intersection of Suttor Development Road and Kemmis Creek Road when the incident occurred about 1.30pm.

RACQ CQ Rescue was tasked at 2pm and flew direct to the scene, about 120km south-west of Mackay, in 30 minutes.

The helicopter was landed on a dirt road adjacent to the scene with a doctor and Critical Care Paramedic on board.

The trauma team and ambulance officers treated and stabilised the injured man and he was flown to Mackay Base Hospital in a stable condition, arriving about 4pm.
